Virus Warning on install

Postby KMcCMedia » Wed Apr 13, 2011 6:14 pm

I think that my 'Avast' anti-virus program is giving me a false positive. When I Install DVDShrink32 v.3.2.0.15 and it goes to run afterward, Avast warns me of a potentially unsafe program and offers to run DVDShrink in a "Sandbox". I have seen this hyper-caution behavior before, but it begs me to find out if I'm on safe ground.

Is there a way to find out if the installer I have is clean and original? BTW the installer .exe passes a virus scan.

Verify your download with the MD5s listed in the FAQ. If they match you downloaded a version that is virus free which indeed makes it a false positive.

Thank you for your reply.

There are three stickies atop each forum one of which is the FAQ (which is mandatory before posting, BTW). Search for md5 there.

The new update of avast has the sandbox capability which you can shut down completely or tell it to ignore a particular probram, like dvd shrink. Or, you can run shrink in the sandbox. I have gotten the same warning for shrink and a couple of other known safe programs I have used for years. I suggest you make sure the copy of shrink is virus-free and then tell avast to not run in sandbox. 8)

I'm using Avast as well and none of the Shrink versions I use raises any flag.

Just had a problem creating an ISO of one of my DVD's and thought I'd share the solution.

Avast is flagging DVDShrink as suspicious and asks to run it in the sandbox - I select "no" but it runs in the autosandbox anyway (you can tell by the red broder around the program window). So I tried to run it twice, program ran successfully but I couldn't find the .iso files anywhere. I went into Avast and added DVDShrink to the exclusions list for the auto sandbox. Decrypting now but the red border is gone so I assume all will be fine.
