DVD Shrink and ImageBurn problem with Windows 7

Postby swampwizard » Sat Oct 23, 2010 12:26 am

Hello Everybody, I'm new to this forum and please bear with me. I've checked FAQ and searched and I can't find an answer. I've been useing DVD Shrink with Windows XP since 2005. Encoding and then burning with ImageBurn has been no problem. I've finally upgraded to Windows 7 and that's when the problem started. To backup one of my own disc (Predator). In Windows 7 I've ripped with DVD Fab Dycrypter HD then encoded and shrunk with DVD Shrink (C:). When I open ImageBurn I can not find the file to burn. It's not where it's supposed to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks. :( :(

Where does DVD Shrink save to? Did you output an ISO image or to a DVD folder? I suppose you have it output to ISO image, then all you have to do is run ImgBurn, select Write ISO image to Disc, locate the ISO image and burn it a 4x.

If so that's exactly what I do and I'm running Windows 7.

8x should be ok with decent media. However, some dirs are priviliged on a Win7 system so either make your own on C: or better D: and see if you can find Shrink's output there.

DVD Shrink automatically saves it to C:. When I open ImageBurn there is no file there. Is there a way I can save it in say documents? I'm new to W7 and maybe I just don't know how to open it. I'm not stupid but this has got me rattled. I'm almost to the point where I'll use my old machine with XP.

Just select the output dir you want under Backup > ISO Image File > Select target image file.

This is the exact problem I'm having. I have devoted the last hour and a half to trying to figure it out and finally joined this forum. DVD Shrink did its think just like I remember it doing in Windows XP but there is NO ISO image file!

My movie folder has 21 items in -- none of which is an ISO file. Most are VTS files with extensions of BUP, IFO and VOB. There is nothing to burn.

"Just select the output dir you want under Backup > ISO Image File > Select target image file." Nothing gives me this option. I can't find anything anywhere that lets me choose ISO Image File!

Help please, I have a blind veteran who very much wants to be able to copy his concert DVDs so he can take them with him when he travels.

After you click the "Backup" option and a new window opens up.

It has five tabs the fist one says: Target Device. In the tab look for where it says: Select backup Target. To the right there is a drop down menu, if you desire an iso select it!

If you don't see that option then you need to uninstall and re-install. Download DVD Shrink from File Hippo.

Next time please use ALT+PRINT to make a screenshot of only the active window and save to png instead of jpeg. Thanks.

Yes I know how too. Figured I'd say myself a reply if OP didn't know what I was referencing.

Really? That's why there's an arrow for a pulldown menu.

Hello,
those who are having problems having saved an iso and then not being able to find the iso afterwards, might be being caught out be Windows 7 not allowing programming software to write to the "C" drive root directory, If DVDshrink writes the output file to that directory (C), then windows put the file into a hidden area on the drive called "virtualstore" which shadows any attemps to write to the root directory. The file can usually be found by following this path, :-C:\Users\User Name\Appdata\Local\VirtualStore\ .... where "User Name" will have to be changed to your own user directory name.
If you search for the filename or "VirtualStore", windows does not find them even though they are there in the VirtualStore

Hoping this helps,
