also make sure that you take a good representation of what you'll be listening to when you audition the speakers.
I took "Tomorrow World is Not Enough" and repeatedly played the scene where the submarine implodes.
Also, Fear Factory's "Demanufacture" album, Faith No More's "King For a Day, Fool for a Lifetime" album (this one's got it all - highs, lows, and everywhere in between especially on the voice), and several symphonic compilations.
If the retailer doesn't want you to play your own audio &/or wants to keep you from "cranking it" or otherwise adjust the equipment they have the speakers connected to, LEAVE. Find a reputable dealer.
Don't waste your time with those 'preset' demos so many places have. If you don't normally listen to Sheryl Crowe or Dave Matthews, why would you use them to test speakers? If you do listen to either of them normally, shoot yourself.
