About to Upgrade Machine- ??'s

Postby Clams » Sun Feb 05, 2012 5:54 pm

Hi!
As a "lifetime" user of DVDShrink; It's with some hesitation that I change anything at all.
None the less, since I came across a "good deal" on a Win 7 family pack - I'm tempted to upgrade the RAM on my old P4 3.2ghz machine from 2 to 4 gigs and give Win 7 (32 bit) a test drive. (because I can) :)

My current config uses Nero 6.x under XP. It's my understanding (from the FAQ's) that I need Nero 7.x or higher to use Nero under Win 7. (correct?)

That said... I'm not sure exactly what version of Nero changed the "hooks" so that Shrink couldn't call it up?
I already have a new copy of Nero 8.5 (came free with my newest burner), so I'm quite likely to use that.

The Question: Does anyone know for sure if Nero 8.x can still be called up from DVDShrink?

I'm pretty sure it's not but you don't need it anyway. Just search for the hacked version of Shrink that calls up ImgBurn as mentioned in the FAQ and you'll be rid of Nero bloatware.

The problem with using that version of Shrink, is that (as I understand it) it requires you to save to ISO in order to do the ImgBurn thingie.
I know that later versions of ImgBurn can burn from a folder - but I don't think the hacked Shrink can work with that. (right?)
I require a folder format on my drive for playback purposes. Oh well.

Mmh, the standalones I've seen so far can handle (DVD) ISO playback so folders aren't necessary. If you really do need them either try for yourself or ask on the Nero forums which version still works with Shrink cause I've abandoned their bloatware years ago.

Thanks... I think Nero 8 - but I'll check.
If Nero 8 works with Shrink and Win 7 - then it might be the only overlap point.
